ABCB1 (MDR1), commonly known as P-glycoprotein (often abbreviated as P-gp or Pgp), is a member of the ABC (ATP-binding cassette) superfamily.
Pgp is extensively distributed and expressed in various tissues such as the intestinal epithelium, hepatocytes, renal proximal tubular cells, and capillary endothelial cells comprising the blood-brain barrier.
